“Those solutions will be designed so that others at Harvard and beyond can incorporate them into their work in the future. This is a new kind of impact.”
Harvard Data Sciences Initiative has recently partnered with Amazon Web Services in order to establish the AWS Impact Computing Project. Impact computing utilizes data science to address problems around the world. Global development involves complex problems that require complex solutions. Impact computing addresses this by pulling experts and data from various fields, including artificial intelligence, computer science, and statistics, in order to generate well-rounded solutions. It also requires collaboration across sectors, academia, governments, NGOs, and the private sector in order to create impactful solutions. The program will help to address various issues that Harvard staff and departments are working to find solutions for. One example is a project examining food insecurity as a result of droughts and climate change. The program will help address this by providing data from satellites, maps of agriculture, and yield outcomes. The program will help to fill in the gaps of data that is needed in order to create solutions to active and future projects.
